The new RSPCA Animal Care Campus at Glenthorne Farm, O’Halloran Hill, Adelaide, is a landmark development that reflects RSPCA’s unwavering commitment to world’s best practice in animal welfare. Designed as both a state-of-the-art care facility and a vibrant community destination, the campus offers a broad range of services including fostering and adoption, education and training programs, volunteer and allied welfare support, and interactive visitor experiences.
The project involved a multitude of areas including a dedicated Australian Native Wildlife Care facility, a general animal arrivals and veterinary clinic, a consolidated state administrative centre, a community education hub, adoption and retail spaces, and specialised holding areas for dogs, cats, and small pets.
Technical Execution
A diverse range of lighting applications has been incorporated throughout the building to suit its varied functions and spaces. Downlights and linear extrusions are used extensively across main areas and thoroughfares, providing consistent, clean design and visual continuity. Outdoor areas such as the carpark and surrounds feature streetlighting, while interior spaces include track lighting, spotlights, wall-mounted fixtures and extrusion. Suspended extrusions are also utilised and feature throughout the office areas, contributing to both functional lighting and the overall modern design of the area.
Project Outcome
The RSPCA Animal Care Campus stands as a benchmark for modern and functional design, efficiency and community engagement. Through architectural thoughtful design, and a commitment to excellence in animal welfare, the campus not only meets the diverse needs of its staff and furry occupants but also invites the broader public into a space of learning, care, and connection.
